Wallet Empty After Seed Phrase Recovery: What to Check

A zero balance after recovery does not prove the funds are gone. The application may show another network or account, omit a token, or derive a different set of addresses. First compare a known address with its blockchain history. Confirmed outgoing transfers you did not make are a separate problem. Never enter your phrase on a balance-checking website.
Identify what is actually empty

Find a previous address in exchange withdrawal history or a saved receipt. Bitcoin receiving addresses can change, so one different new address does not establish a different wallet. Compare known-address history and the account as a whole. The general access route is Bitcoin wallet recovery.
First checks: network, account and token
- Select the network where the funds were held; mainnet and test networks differ.
- Verify the asset and, for a token, its contract using a trusted source.
- Add the previously used account in the application.
- Check synchronization and network connectivity.
- Compare the old address balance in the correct network explorer.
In MetaMask, restoring the phrase does not automatically recover every separately imported account. Such accounts may require their original private key, JSON file or hardware connection. Check the phrase format and separate passphrase
An accepted phrase is not proof that it belongs to the intended wallet. Electrum has a native seed format; BIP39 is a different standard. A separate BIP39 passphrase changes the derived keys: a typo can produce a valid but empty wallet. An application password or device PIN does not replace it.
Address type and account derivation path also matter. Do not change them at random or disclose your phrase to a helper. Establish the original application and settings first. For hardware, see Ledger recovery.
Compare addresses and transaction history
Check the old address’s recent incoming and outgoing transactions, network, times and status. If the funds remain there but the restored wallet cannot spend them, investigate matching keys and account selection. If funds have left, restoring a phrase cannot reverse the transfer.
Compare unfamiliar outgoing activity with your own transfers, swaps and application interactions first. Preserve the TxID and transaction details. Signs of compromise call for a review of fund movements, not repeated seed imports.
When assistance is useful
If these checks do not explain the difference, use the balance assessment form to describe the old and new applications, network, old public address, symptom and whether a separate backup or passphrase was used. State whether a passphrase exists; do not provide it, the recovery phrase or private keys.
The wallet recovery service can assess account correspondence and possible access routes. Confirmed outgoing transfers require transaction analysis. These are different tasks: diagnosis may show that the correct keys were restored but the funds are no longer at those addresses.
Risks and limitations
- Entering a seed phrase into a checking website or bot exposes access.
- A new application password does not recover a lost passphrase.
- An unfamiliar token using the same name can be fake.
- Restoring keys cannot reverse confirmed outgoing transfers.
