Bybit access for users tied to Russia: geo and KYC, not an AML withdrawal hold

Bybit limits for users tied to Russia are more often about access, residency, and channel (KYC, fiat, excluded jurisdictions) than about an AML hold on a specific withdrawal. Check the current help center and profile, not a chat screenshot. Treat a document request on a withdrawal separately: Bybit froze withdrawals: first steps. Platform page: Bybit. Route: exchange account unfreezing.
An access limit and an AML withdrawal hold are different cases
Search queries about Bybit blocking Russian users usually mix three things: a product unavailable for a jurisdiction or channel; a KYC profile that does not match residency; and risk control pausing a withdrawal for documents. The first two are about who you are to the platform and which service is open. The third is about this transfer and the origin of funds. A SoF package does not cure an excluded jurisdiction, and a VPN country hop does not close an origin-of-funds request.
Bybit's Service Restricted Countries article lists excluded jurisdictions and separately refuses service to persons on sanctions lists (including SDN, EU, and UK lists). The list changes; do not insert "Russia as a country" from memory. A separate fiat article limits card-issuing countries: for users in the Russian Federation, general fiat service is described as RUB-only. That is a channel limit, not an automatic "dead account".
If the dashboard asks for withdrawal documents, additional verification, or origin of funds, that is already the Bybit withdrawal freeze: first steps track, not a "passport ban". Broader classes are in the top reasons accounts are frozen.
What to check in KYC and Bybit's help center
In the profile, check country or residency, the KYC document, name match, and any open verification request. In the help center, check Restricted Countries, Restricted Issuing Countries for Fiat, and KYC-level limits. A 2024 chat screenshot does not replace the current page. Bybit's restricted-countries article ties false statements about residence to a right to terminate service.
If you have lawful residency in another country, reflect it through the official KYC channel, not through "another SIM and a VPN". A forged address, someone else's document, and a geo hop during review read as evasion, not as a profile update. Lawful status is a question of your documents, not a Telegram template.
| What you see | Likely class | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Fiat or cards unavailable, spot open | Channel / product | Fiat restricted-countries article |
| Letter about residency / excluded jurisdiction | Access / KYC | Restricted Countries + profile |
| Withdrawal documents / origin of funds | AML / SoF | First steps for a withdrawal hold |
First steps when access is restricted
- Save the banner, email, and account status; separate access wording from withdrawal wording.
- Open the official Restricted Countries and Fiat Restricted Issuing Countries articles from the help center, not from a search result on someone else's domain.
- Reconcile KYC: document, residency, open requests; reply with one package through the official channel.
- If withdrawal verification is also requested, build that package from the Bybit first-steps guide; do not mix it with a "country change".
- Never share a seed phrase, passwords, or 2FA codes.
Until the class is clear, do not withdraw through a friend or open a second account. The platform page is Bybit. If a restriction is already in place, keep exchange account unfreezing and a success-fee assessment in view. Access rules change; the outcome is not guaranteed.
What not to do: fake documents and VPN hopping
- Do not forge a passport or proof of address, and do not buy "KYC from another country".
- Do not hop VPNs to appear to be in another jurisdiction, especially during a review.
- Do not open a second account to bypass a channel limit or a withdrawal hold.
- Do not answer an AML withdrawal request with "I am from another country" without profile documents.
False residency and geo evasion are a separate termination risk on top of any AML issue. If you are unsure whether this is access or a withdrawal hold, start with the dashboard text and the two official articles, then collect SoF. Panic and someone else's "withdraw overnight" script more often create a new alert than close an old one. A two-day checklist is in frozen crypto: what to do.
Risks and limitations
- Bybit excluded-jurisdiction lists and fiat rules are updated; follow the current help center, not a recap.
- Changing apparent location through a VPN or submitting forged KYC documents can lead to a refusal of service.
- A document package does not guarantee continued access, restoration of a channel limit, or unfreezing of withdrawals.
- An access restriction and an AML withdrawal hold need different packages; mixing them delays both tracks.
- This article is not official Bybit policy and is not legal advice.
